A Place of Refuge for the Children of Sonora

Last post we mentioned we where praying about our involvement with the orphanage in Sonora. So far, our direction has moved out onto the streets of Sonora instead. Pastor Victor has shared his heart with us for all the children he sees in the part of town around his house. That area is full of drugs, alcohol, prostitutes, gangs, etc. He has been moved to tears seeing poor, abused children locked out of their homes, hungry, beaten, and even sold. Over the last few weeks he has been inviting the children next to his house in a building where he feeds them, teaches them about Jesus, sings with them, does art, and set up a bouncy house for them to play.

Day 1 already had 14 children, and more have been coming as the children bring their friends. They are so eager for Sundays (the day he gathers the children), that one little 8 year-old girl keeps coming to his house to remind him not to forget when to start. "Pastor Victor, don't forget tomorrow!"..."Pastor Victor, where are you going?" (She was so worried at 8 am Sunday morning when he went back into his house to get a glass of water!) Little Regina runs from house to house all excited, inviting all the children to come! Last Sunday the children were gathering inside. Pastor Victor was laying out crayons when all of a sudden the children were gone. He looked outside to see Regina leading the kids down the street. "Where are you all going?" Victor asked. They all answered, "We're getting more children!"

Life of the Village Foundation has been donating money for tables, chairs, food, colors, and a bouncy house. Pastor Victor and the neighborhood of children have been full of life and excitement. He would call it "Kid's Club," but the children said they want to call it Iglesia de Ninos (Children's Church).
